I never knew readers could be this rigid

Hello friends and Welcome to the "Reading is Cheaper Than Therapy Book Club". We (myself along with a few friends) have agreed to give 'group reading' a try and see what happens. Now, I have personally never been involved in a 'real life' book club nor have I participated in an online book club so I wasn't sure where to begin. After a little research (ahem...google) I have discovered that people are s.e.r.i.o.u.s about book clubs. If that's the club you're looking for, you are in the wrong place.

The purpose of this book club is to, obviously, read and enjoy literature. We all have different types of books that we enjoy and I think it's always healthy to venture outside of our comfort zone...even in reading. With this blog, we will take turns recommending and leading discussions about the books we choose. Written at the top of this blog is one of my favorite quotes that reads, "No two persons ever read the same book". We may find that we disagree on a subject and someone may pick a book that everyone else hates. Let's give it a try and see what happens.

I will unveil announce via blog the first two books next week. Now, how many books we read and how often is up for questions, comments, and snide remarks. We all are pretty busy people so I don't want to overdo it and then no one participates. My first thought was to choose two books at the beginning of each month and aim to have them completed within three weeks. The moderator of each month can post discussion questions in the middle of the month and we can all comment/discuss as we complete the book(s). Questions? Comments? Snide Remarks?

Um, where do I sign up?

You're signed up already, Rita. I tried to link your blog on this page but I couldn't since your blog is private. I need to know your e-mail address so that you can be an administrator (by the way, you have been selected as an administrator since you're the queen of reading).

I think 2 books in 3 weeks may be a lot if you want to have more than just you and Rita discuss. Maybe 2 in a month.

I'm pretty sure you can't talk about people who take their book clubs too seriously after this blog post. (Snide enough?)

I may not always be able to keep up because of my dissertation reading, but I'll try to read one book a month with you guys. Is that okay? I promise not to suggest that we all read "The Beauty Bias" even though it is good :-)

Snide remark: Let's be honest...one a month will probably work better. We'll be gungho and then I am sure we will all fall off the face of the earth. You said snide and snide I am!

I love snide comments!!!

Ok, let's do one book per month and aim to have it completed in time for a day or so of ongoing discussion towards the end....how's that?

And Mandy, I think you SHOULD suggest 'The Beauty Bias'....sounds interesting :)

Can i get nerdy? Do any of you use skype?
Basically..u get a headset and we can all have a conference call without/without web cams on to discuss. I like talking over people whose opinions are vastly differ...I mean, I like having "real" conversations from time to time.
